Serious question....When I send a private email to someone presumably I can only do so because they've elected to permit this in their preferences. However they can also elect not to have these messages forwarded to them in which case they will only know there is a message waiting for them when they visit the forums.
The only 'up-front' indicator that private messages are waiting appears to be a little icon which flashes next to the 'main index' menu header - otherwise you need to go to personal options to see the private message status.
I only ask because I have sent a small number of private messages with no response and I wonder if folk may not realise they are there.
'course, they may just have decided to ignore me , I suppose............

Everything you say is true, save for the fact I couldn't possibly comment on whether anyone wants to converse with you!
I think in quite a few cases not everyone here has woken up to private messages yet. We'll avoid unmercifully spamming everyone, but we'll try to spread the word over the winter so that more can some use out of these tools.
Opting for private messaging rather than publishing everyones' e-mail addresses as per the old forum system means we offer a much higher degree of privacy to users.
Incidentally, in case anyone is nervous of subscribing to private messaging, doing so doesn't immediately add you to every Eastern European porn ring...it is a purely internal communication system administered on the ybw server.

Graham - I suppose you will be offering your service to evalute the porn rings? I think I've got a lazy g*t in my technical team who seems to prefer "bouncy-bouncy.com" as opposed to what I pay him to do. Trouble is he clears the logs before I can prove it....

Serious, true story: I once met a guy from the BBC whose job it was to trawl porn sites looking for BBC presenters. Being PC, the Beeb had him do it with a female chaperone sat alongisde him, to make sure he was doing it properly!

Sadly not, generated so much traffic I couldn't afford the bandwidth any longer. Plus, the goat took me to the European Court of sub-Human rights and for punishment I was assigned the 0200-0600 shift on these forums for life.
Why was it I knew I shouldn't have referred to Eastern European porn rings?
