Bought my boat in August last year, first sea going boat I've ever had but done lots of sailing previously in other peoples boats and chartered a lot. There are lots of boats for sale out there and you can spend a lot of time looking at all the different types, styles configurations etc. Waiting until autumn sounds like a good idea, waiting until mid winter may see you pick up a bargain and hopefully by then you will have more experience and be clearer in your own minds what you want and why.

Well the plan originally was to dinghy sail for a few years and then gradually move into cruising. Then, this year we thought, why wait? We've plenty of experience of the sea (and a healthy fear), understand a bit about tides and probably are a lot more capable than many who just buy a boat and go. What we don't have is sailing experience, so the sooner we start, the sooner we can start to build some.
I have to say, though, it is occupying my mind somewhat lately. I just can't wait to get out and try it. I'm really looking forward to our day skipper course in June. I'm just hoping that we don't come across a boat we really like at a good price this summer, if you know what I mean.....
