Teak - En Espaniol - Teka !.. what a super material to work with..
Cutting out shapes with power tools is simplicity, also hand tools.. it is really beautiful to work with.. easy to sand, easy to finish.. simply the best as Tina may say...
Best investments I have recently made are the DeWalt Jigsaw.. a wonderful piece of kit.. and Irwin blades.. hot knife through butter Maam ? Also, a Bosch Professional Random orbit 125 mm sander.. the Bizz !. - along with quantities of 3M production paper.
It is NOT expensive compared to other woods (Here at least)
Making teak window surrounds, new facias, overhead panel (Curved) for the pilot house instruments.. A cheap plunge router with quality bits makes a quality round over finish too. also useful for dado cutting etc.
Now making complex concave and convex curves - after trying and failing to bend it with pressure cooker, steam etc - out of veneer - 10 layers, any curve you want ! glue with cyanoacrylate glue.. nice one !.
what a simply wonderful wood to work with.. dont be afraid of it.. go for it and experiment away.. you CAN get a production finish, curves and counter curves this way.
On a lot of structural items - seat facings etc, I am using AWB ply then faced with teak - to maintain structural integrity.. teak warps if not supported adequately.
I have learnt a big lesson, that is, RE-Learnt a big lesson from years ago.. dont buy cheap tools !.. or, at least buy quality - and I mean the best ! - bits and blades. Just spent 40 euros on 2 chisels.. ONLY to use on wood.. the others that I used to open tins of paint etc from B&Q are for hacking.. the quality ones are for real work lol.
what a wonderful passtime boat maintenance is... almost better than beer.. In fact.. I have learnt to combine the two..
TEAK, the gift from the gods.. Thank you Alah!!!

Yes terrible isnt it. fitting out the boat, teak is cheaper than pine local product,no 35% duty. rosewood the same price as imported timber.but all the rest, sails ,engine fittings plus 35% import duty. plus carriage.the ply here is superb,a third of uk price. swings and roundabouts.Clunk!! the swings just hit me.

Teak really is a joy to work with as it does what it is told . Dont talk too much about sanding it though or the Teak police will be all over you As for tools , chuck away yer Erwins and get on to ebay for the older wooden handled chisels . The metal is better and so easy to get a razor sharp edge at a fraction of the price . I picked this lot up for about £40 inc p&p
