I'm looking for a manual windlass to suit 1/2 inch or 12mm chain (i belive they are the same). For some reason I can't understand, most manufacturers only make electric winches these days. Can anyone help...

Hmm, 1/2" converts to 12.7mm which might explain your problems. Toplicht sells spare gypsies that will accept 13mm DIN 766 chain and at least one traditional windlass for 13mm. At a price however.

Sounds very interesting, although I was not aware the Royal was avaliable for 1/2 inch chain. We have a number friends over in Greece, so that may not be such a problem. What condition is the winch in?

it works perfectly well, serviced each season, would keep it were it not for the fact I’m getting lazy (plus with two we ankle snappers running around, I’m trying to do all I can to make life easier!!). Ouma is presently in Preveza, and I’ll be over in Aug sometime to fit the new (oh I can’t bloody wait) Tigres! We too have friends in Athens, but I’m sure the logistics of collection / delivery is far from problematic.
