      #1849181 - 06/05/2008 19:56

No water coming from telltale so Im thinking I must check the impellor. I am guessing its in the lower leg, how and what do I disconnect to find the water pump.

thanks in advance for assistance

ok the plot thickens I have managed to strip out the impeller, it was easy. but on inspection its fine, no bits missing and very flexible so why no water from the weep hole what should I check next and how??

Check telltale for blockages first. Both ends.

AS for the water pump I personally would just set to work on and try to separate the gearbox from the leg. The only sensible advice you can be given is to get a manual, preferably a Yamaha one as third party ones often cover too wide a range of models.

just had exactly the same problem with my year old 8hp.
Puled the impellor out, all ok.....
Phoned the dealer i bought it from, and was told to "shove some stiff wire up the tell tale outlet, as they block really easily"
Lift the engine out of the water leaving just the intake grills in, check how much water is flowing out throught the center of the prop, if there is loads you'll be fine.

After the wire treatment my tell tale is jetting out as it should!! And I get nearly 20knts out of my new 3.2mtr tender
Good luck
