It does look like the torpedo testing facility on Loch Long.

You mean looks like its been tested by a torpedo. No joking though, is it not just off the road from Arrocher to Loch Fyne? Hope you are well Mike, Got her back in yet?

Yes, its the torpedo testing facility on Loch Long, was there today, had loads of fun, no fish biting, but will try again on sunday I even got a thumbs up from the boat/military police, which is not like them, on the way there, we saw two hercules going down Loch Lomond at a very low altitude, I have never seen anything so low, except for a helicopter landing great day out, my lad now suffering a little sunburn on the legs, even though he said he was chilly and was wearing a fleece and shorts

OH, forgot to add, the local boat hire place on Loch Long, says there is a 12knot speed limit for the last 2 years to stop all the jetskis and speed boats from larking about and causing a nuisance, enforced by the military police

NO,,,the military police are protecting "Coulport", a small naval base about 2 miles away from the torpedo facility and Faslane is close by, about 4 or 5 mile away in the Gare Loch
The torpedo facility was were they tested torpedos from 1912 and it was known for them to fire the torpedos down the loch, if you stand anywhere on the building you can look all the way down the loch, I believe the facility was closed in the late 80's and the building is now condemned and now looks as if its being taken down or it may just be falling a part

Now that's odd. I drove up past there on Wednesday 30th, just before the May Bank Holiday, and back again on Monday 5th. If the ModPlods are guarding Faslane, then they're in the wrong loch altogether. And even if it's Coulport they're involved with, that's actually over a dozen sea miles away to the south.
Now, there's a one-time fuelling jetty at Arddarroch, a few miles north of Garelochhead, but that's currently being recycled by some civilian firms - and certainly the security guards are civilian, for I spoke with one of them. Mind you, I wouldn't put it beyond possibility that the Glen Douglas NATO Special Weapons storage facility - once the largest nuclear target in Europe - is being recycled for a broadly similar purpose.
It still doesn't explain what ModPlods were doing, 'swanning' about at our expense up by Arrochar.

The jetty for RNAD Glen Douglas at Glenmallan is only 5 miles South. I guess this is what the ModPlods are guarding.

Between 1983 and 1985 I was a Torpedo Discharge Sea Trials bod at that facility, although my office was in Pompey Dockyard. It looks very sad compared to those happy days.
We used to 'live' in the Cobbler Hotel in Arrochar, where my team and I provided an enormous boost to the local economy, mainly through beer sales!
