Chain Size

Ok all you knowledgeable people, if a chain is described as 8mm for e.g., what does that 8mm describe, what chain link dimension is used to determine the size of chain? I know I should know, but shamefully I don't!

It is the diameter of the rod from which the chain is made.

Careful;- there are different link LINGTHS as well.
