whats the concensus on using LED lamps for navigation channel markers vis a via not using LED lamps in sailing tricolour and anchor lights?
in brest, france has converted to using LED lamps for navigation channel markers. are they legal?

Some old ones were replaced by LEDs down our way recently. They are much brighter now. LEDs are still improving, but they are so efficient, that I'd expect virtually all marine lighting (and a whole lot of land-based lighting too) to be LEDs within a few years.

Certainly not! If I were you I should march into the nearest Gendarmarie Station and shout:
"Je suis un Anglais. Vous avez les illuminations illegal!! Je demandez mon dues de harbour returnez!!!!"
That should do the trick - I think.
