Off to Plymouth tomorrow, to drag the boat round to Wales. Not looking folwards to it alot. Hire car all packed up. The coast of Devon/ Cornwall, so easy, tide table, we'll get one eventually. So how goods this garmin thingy, I mean, I have a few charts, mostly big things of the whole Irish sea. Like 1979 version. However on testing the Garmin in the car, it did take me over the swinging bride in Preston marina.
So. Raythion will take me to Landsend no problem. Or ummf to Scilly Ilses, we aint decided. Then normally I would just go back to paper and give it lat and long., then press auto. My thinking being, just using the Garmin 550? just to be sure.
JUst to refresh the auto pilot is on rathion old model. The Garmin new. Should I use lat and long, work out the course in the old rathion. Or learn the garmin thingy and use auto pilot manually.

If it were me I'd stick to what I know and learn to use the new techy stuff before I relied on it........

or run it in parallel, and learn as you go. Long enough trip to get to grips with it, without relying on it.
It's fairly intuitive
