What's the best think to seal a weeping diesel tank fitting? (It's a screw thread) - can I use Sika 291?

Try red hermetite. If its a paralell thread, add a bit of plumbers hemp to give you something to tighten up to. If its a tapered thread, just the hermetites the thing. Its semi hardening so once its been on for 10 mins or so dont muck about with it or you may break the seal.

Loctite do a product called lockseal which is ideal for this task.
