Hi guys.
My dad's looking for a cheap day boat to poddle around the Med in, I know a chap with a 1984 boat, blue and red stripes, 2 V-6 'Chevvie things' as he calls them, needs a service and antifouling, with mooring at Altea.
As a day boat for occasional use, how reliable were the petrols? It had a new re-con engine last year, and the guy never uses it hence his need for a sale.
Just wondering what would be considered the right price for this.

They are an aquired taste. Basically a dutuned race boat. Super fast, great hull and a thrill a minute. Noticably smaller down below than even a Targa 28, and avery narrow beam.
So long as you are realistic about the petrol running costs then why not, it will be a laugh a minute.
No idea what they are worth, but my gut says no more than £20k if it is average - maybe £25k if it is out of the box (which it wont be)

Cheers Jez, I have a figure in mind 'B Bit' below that!
Does anyone know any surveyor types down there? If not any owners or previous owners that might want to take a look with us?
I know its a big ask, but as a day boat at the right the money, it sould still end up costing you loads before you can use it.

went on few onboard these
they have a good Don Shead hull, but check well for stress cracking in the corner of the boats and where there is some fittings (hull deck joint, radar arch, windscreen etc) check also for some blistering on these old Sunseeker before 1986/85 as on about 50% it is the case

It doesn't sound ideal as an occasional dayboat to me, parts are cheapish for the big Chevy's, but service costs will still be high after labour. Also as Jez says, its a detuned race boat, so will roll quite a lot at rest, and have v limited accomodation. For general med use i'd much sooner have a sport cruiser or newer deck boat with an outboard or single diesel.

As I said, that was my gut. i thought about £15k but that felt a bit cheap. Clearly if the guy is desperate, you may well get it for less than it is 'worth'.
By the way, happy to give it the once over for you - I wont even charge so all you have to do is provide flights and a half decent hotel .
