I have just had a couple of quotes for crusing spares for Yanmar 4JH4E's. I was gobsmaked by some of the prices and was wondering if any one has had any experience in buying the equivalent car parts which are normally half the cost. I'm talking belts, filters etc not major parts. Thanks Adaero

Go Generic

If your dog is barking at the back door and your wife is yelling at the front door, who do you let in first?
> The dog, of course. He'll shut up once you let him in.

Is there anywhere you can find out the generic part numers or equivalents? As an example, the oil filter is the same as a 1995 Rover 25? Thanks Adaero

Try here for cross referencing. Armed with a list of numbers, you'll then have to go to your nearest commercial or agricultural vehicle place to see what they have in stock. Or you could try Thomas Auto Injection Centre

Yes, the oil filter is no problem, since it seems to be common on Mazda and Hyundai engines. The fuel filter is not so easy though - unless you know different of course!

Thanks for all of your replies. I have been trolling the web looking for cheaper alternatives and came across this company in the States. http://shop.torresen.com/marine_diesel_d...tentname=engine Selct the engine you have and compare prices you will be very suprised. I checked the cost of an impeller for my 4JH4E. Uk RRP £25.80, US $16.60 (approx £8.40) unbelievable. Here comes the crunch though they are only allowed to sell to their Yanmar approved area of 20 states. I have a friend working in Seattle who is back in a couple of weeks, guess what he will have in his suitcase!!
