Thought I may take the wooden vessel for a sail today from Fellfoot Park at the very south end of Windermere.
£15 for a day launch with parking included. It's just 2.5 miles from home so is handy.
Loaded and ready in half an hour
Rigged and ready to launch in about 20 minutes
It was a lovely day with a changeable breeze, from nothing to 12mph and turn through 180° then fall away to 3 or 4mph. And every other combination you can think of.
However the etrex tells me the dinghy does 5 mph on a reach and 6.3mph downwind in about 10/12 mph of wind. I thought that not bad for a 13' clinker dinghy with some "quaint" sails.
The location is not ideal. Very pleasant people and good slipway and jetty, but you can only go one way and (like Captainslarty said - it grieves me to say that) it's a bit narrow at the Southern end. As the main breeze was from ENE I was beating up the lake for 2 hours (but making sod all progress as the wind kept shifting - the wrong way) and 15 minutes to run back down.
Still, I managed a perfect sail into the jetty (alongside I mean, not into it).
Saw some Canada goslings
I discovered the little boat is very stable and easily controls the gusts running down the side of Gummer's Howe (the hill in the 3rd pic).
I did forget to take a bailer and as it hasn't been in the water for 5 months was getting a bit concerned, but it didn't come above the floorboards, except when heeled.

Third pic: you have rather coyly hidden the foresail behind the mast. But on past form I'd be expecting the luff to be less taut than a bowstring.

Oh yes, I talked through with the local engineer about my port engine which is playing dead. We went through what I have tried and what he suspects including a worthwhile modification to the exhaust manifolds to prevent the starboard engine dying in the same way.
I then checked my bank account and savings online as they might take a bit of a hit.

Them's a weedy looking set of alloy paddles! Get yourself a nice, heavy wooden set. You know what SWMBO says about having the right accessories to set of the ensemble properly.
Glad you had a good day. I like the benefit of tides so you know you can get back again without too much effort even if the wind dies.

They are oars. I have the wooden ones, but these work better as they are longer. I may use the wooden ones for appearances sake.

Sorry, couldn't resist. They might LOOK like oars, but I think you'll find real ones are made of spruce, have a coat of varnish and a bit of leather tacked on.
The dinghy itself, however, is an absolute cracker. You've obviously put a lot of work into it. Don't take any notice of anyone who takes the p1ss out of your toy inflatable paddles.

I was only teasing, don't be too annoyed.
It can be very hard resisting the impulse to try to burst your bubble when you have obviously had a great time. I admit I was too weak to resist.

Great set of photos, nice boat and a super place to sail. I went over to my boat yesterday to do a few jobs on engine and water storage system. I found that the wind was blowing well in The Blackwater so went sailing instead. Hard beat up into the wind for an hour or so and then a good blast back. For the first time ever I had spray coming over the stern when on a broad reach - I reckon it was around an F6. Great way to forget about everything except boat handling.
Still need to do those jobs though.....!

Thats lovely.
So it now has a restored 'Handsome Transom'.
I foresee some useful camera work for it afloat,ahem,adorned with suitable crew.

Wasn't that boring when I was up that way at the weekend. After looking at all the plastic on the lake, we tried to walk back up the hill only to see it being washed towards us at speed. I think Windy mere is a bit shallower now.

Serious question, would you consider hiring the boat to respected, or not so respected, or even not even slightly respected forumites...
well me and swmbo.
I want to get swmbo out in a dinghy to learn instantaneous sail trim, but am afraid my condition will stop me using a standard ply dinghy.. Your boat looks great for lumps like me to cross when tacking etc..
Maybe I should have pm'd this..

You can hire wayfarers at Coniston boating centre. These are wide enough and very stable and you can take them back broken without embarressment

It's to allow for the tide innit.
I,m getting into this saily lark.
Had a go with Searush last year.
We went nowhere for 2 hours too.
Searush said "We wanna go over there"
Then He 'points' the arrangement about 45 degrees somewhere else 
Stiil, He knew what He was doing.
I think.
Crabs seem to go sideways too.
See, I,m noticing these things now.
It's a strange World in Saily Land.
When's the next go Searush?
I gotta learn more about going sideways!

Silly bugger. That's a loose mooring to allow the breeze to hold me off the jetty so my new fenders don't get dirty.
