Friends,
Am I right in thinking that Maptech charts with ".cap" files are encrypted and not usable by SeaClear? The demo charts ".kap" files seem to work for me but not the ones I've bought, which have ".cap" files.
I had a moment of optimism when I read that SeaClear could read Maptech BSB charts - of which I have many. I use Offshore Navigator, but would like a system which would give me the ability to display AIS info. Unfortunately, even were I prepared to pay the price, Maptech's current offering, Chart Navigator Pro, makes such a pigs ear of tidal displays that I'm not prepared to buy it.

I think you have summed it up quite well! I too would like to find a reasonably priced source of charts that seaclear can use to avoid the problems of scanning in charts (which is also very handy at times!) At the moment I have to use seaclear while running down from my mooring to plymouth and then switch to Maptech. Once the AIS arrives I will have to find some way of using seaclear if only to display contacts on a large scale chart.

Yes. .kap files will work with Seaclear but the encrypted .cap files won't.
