Raymarine S1 with type 1 drive to be exact. I understand the electronics and how to wire the control head to the core pack and connect the pump, but I have no idea where to start with the hydraulics.
Is this an easy job or does it require a lot of time and specialist knowlege?

My advice a marine engineer to fit it, also don't forget the rudder reference kit needed on some hydraulic set ups (ie ap computer needs to know where rudder or outdrives are pointing)

Yes, I have the rudder sensor with the S1 core pack and understand that the system will not function without it.
Your reply confirms what I suspected that it is a job for the pros.

The S1 is a wheel pilot?? you have a small electric motor with a toothed drive?? and a larger sprocket with fittings to attach to your helm?? and a toothed drive belt?? If so you need not touch the hydraulics, the gizmo will steer you, by running forward or reverse as the commands are fed into the computer, and the helm will be turned by the motor, and helm will move the rudder. Raymarine.com have all the documents you need on line.

Sorry the S1 is described as a wheel or tiller pilot, however if you have a pump to put into the system, I think you will find that it has three ports, one is connected to the helm pump (on vetus there is a blanking plug that has to be removed) your existing pipes from helm to ram have to tee'd into the pump, better to use flexible hose so that you can change over ports for port or starboard correction. Again Raymarine is all on line.

Calibration once fitted also takes a little time on flat flat calm water (ie inc swinging the fluxgate compass for deviation). If you read the manual you should have no problem doing the calibration maneauvours yourself, but a raymarine pro can probably just do it quicker and tweak the response and sensitivity settings. One thing I would recommend if you have just bought it but not opened the box is to switch to the S1G model which is identical but has a rate gyro on the course computer, but it dramatically improves the performance at slow speeds and in a following sea. It eliminates snaking meander at displacement speeds. Worth every penny of the few hundred extra quid.

Jez, Is it an outdrive boat? If so it is easy as the linear motor actually operates the hydraulics on the power steering. I fitted the motor myself, which was very simple apart from the fact that I underestimated the lack of space when the engine went bback in so I had to re-fit it upside down.
Haven't done the rest yet as I still haven't got a Control Head

Yes, it is a single DPH drive on a D6-370
Did you not get on to Raymarine about the recon ST6002. Mine turned up about 2 days later and it like new

Unfortunatley I got sidetracked and didn't get round to ringing them. Still have the number so I might try this week on the off-chance that they have something. One on Ebay at the moment but already getting a bit too much from an unknown source and it will probably go higer.
Going back to you motor if it is anything like mine it simply fits to existing parts with no hydraulic connections as the motor operate the power steering. You have got the outdrive linear motor I take it?

No, I have fully hydraulic steering on the D6 - I had the linear mech drive on my last boat and understand how that fits (plug and play with a few bolts after I replaced the coupling pin).
