I think it is possible boat numbers will increase in a couple of years, the Red diesel price may benefit the river. The river is currently the last refuge for many unsellable on the coast twin petrol boats, and I would expect the same to be true of large inefficent 80's/90's twin shaft driven cruisers. People will have to change their boating habits with the increased fuel costs, and if you can buy a dirt cheap Princess or Fairline and run it cheaply on the river, why not?

Oh? Which floods were those> As far as I am aware from my contacts on the River, the descision to operate the Jubilee weir is taken by Flood Defence at the Frimley Office of the EA; lock & weir keepers can only advise Flood Defence Operatives they are unable to make weir adjustments without express orders to do so. I don't think slinging mud at the lock keepers is at all helpful in a reasonable debate - especially when they are unable to defend themselves!!!!

there's an article in Private Eye regarding this and if what they report is true (that, among other things, they are selling some properties which they have only recently bought) then rational argument might be difficult?

i feel very sorry for the culham lockkeeper - he's fairly young with wife and family I think - it will be very difficult for him to find housing within a reasonable distance of culham and he may not easily be able to get to the lock when it floods
