My sense of humour is clearly subdued this morning. I thought it was "smartarse" provocative

Dunno what the problem is with BT's. I have one on my 36' steel cruiser (single prop) and its extremely useful. Dont use it all the time or excessively but I wouldnt be without it. Its only downside is that its a bit noisy (they all are) but I single handed 21 locks getting up to Byrons and it was like having an extra crew.

The only thing I have noticed hanging around quite a few locks in the absence of having my boat to actually take through them is that BTs often seem to be an emotional crutch and used completely unnecessarily. On a largish single prop boat, I am sure they are very helpful though.
