Advice needed on speedboat refurbishment
      #1860804 - 16/05/2008 08:43

My friend and I have recently bought a Driver speedboat and trailer as a refurb project for times when we can't get to our main boats. I have two questions (for now) that I would like some advice on please.
1. After sand blasting the trailer wheels and hubs etc. we have red oxide primed them but would like to know which paint is best as a top coat. Would Hammerite be ok?
2. We also want to replace some of the plastic 'leather-look' trim. Can anyone steer us a heading for a company that has good deals please?

Many thanks - I'm sure we will shout for help again in the near future, as you can probably tell we are a bit new to this!!
Mike

hi mike Ive just refurb'd mine, as for seats/ upholstery just take a seat to a local upholstry repairer local to you, try a couple from your yellow pages, thats what Ive just done, every one has came in with about the same price which is a tear on the bits you sit on but the backs are ok, price roughly 70 to 80 quid.
As for your trailer if youve rubbed it down well and primed it well then most paints would do as long as it says for metal etc, personally speaking hammerit is good for things like railings where quality/looks isnt that important. it dries as your using it when you get hafl way through the tin, can become very kind of stringy/ messy. ok for doing small areas. but it does last for ages looking good. so apart from a silver matt or gloss paint which you could put on with a small roller (two coats) would give you a good as new look, roll out paint well so you dont get runs. hammerite your not supposed to 'overwork' i seem to remember and by the next days there are lots of sag runs all along it then its terrible to fix. mabybe try a small patch but Id go for some sort of gloss, since youve primed it.
Only my tuppence tho !
