Firstly, 22 lock keeper families have been told that their home is to be disposed of within the next five years. The EA have not told the families anything more. They have not been told if they are expected to find their own home or whether they will be rehoused and if so where. If Lock-keepers are expected to find their own home this will represent approx 50% cut in their salary. Lock staff can find out more about what is happening through this forum than from their managers.
Lock keepers and their families feel they are being unfairly treated and intimidated by their managers and this causing an even greater strain on them.
Secondly the EA have announced to staff that they will be cutting back 16 lock-keeper posts. This can only mean that experienced staff will have to cover a wider area. In our opinion this has significant safety implications both for the boater and local communities in times of flood. The EA does not appear to have formulated (if they have, they haven't told us) a safer, more practical and more cost effective way of managing the River.

I think your comments just reinforce what Forumites know and feel. River users are doing their level best to help you.
Now, more than ever is the time for us to repay all the help and kindnesses that Lockies have given us for generations.
So I urge you all to look through your email address books and encourage people to sign the petition. I have done this already.
