Hmmm i was going to buy some teak and holly ply for cuchilo's cockpit but having just cut down a eucolyptus tree in my garden i may just buy the ply and rebate that in myself .

Hi Cuchilo.. might as well get the teak too, o, go against tradition and have a eucolyptus and teak sole... ie - use the tree... its a beautiful wood.
get the table saw and dado out - or the router lol..

10mm teak is OTT. Most teak and holly ply have a top veneer of about 1.6mm. Wear is minimal if it is sealed. I have had success with 2.6mm teak veneers from Robbins for both cabin soles and cockpit seats. Epoxied down then payed with either black pigmented epoxy or Sikaflex.
However, if you teak is cheap - go for it, just seems like a waste of such good wood!

I live in London , teak aint cheap ! As i boat on the Thames and the cockpit can be undercover i think i will go for marine ply and let the timber into that .

One of our local boat builders use a type of formica which is "plastic" teak & holly.
Don't know if available in UK.
A friend does work for the local boat builder so could find South African supplier if that helps.
