Exchanged a few PM's with Geoff today who tells me he will be leaving Ashmount on Thursday enroute for the estuary and the sea on the return voyage to Poole.
Some may remember that his laptop took a dowsing during a thunderstorm shortly after arriving at Byrons and, sadly, has proved impossible to revive so, unless something changes at the last minute he may find it more difficult to keep in touch during his return trip.
He will try and post a little later but agreed I would let you know his plans.
Bon Voyage Geoff...it was good to meet you and I'm sure many here would agree that we've drawn considerable inspiration from your trip. I would certainly not have made it to Byrons if you hadn't made me feel such a wimp !!
Hope to see you at the Windsor 'do' in September and arriving by road will be just fine

Thanks, Tony, our posts have crossed.
Hopefully I'll see some old friends on my way down. Those who are going, have a good time at Ashmount next weekend.
Can't leave without saying a huge THANK YOU to Byron and Eileen for all their fantastic hospitality and help. Hope to see you on Wednesday eve, or Thursday, Byron.

I keep seeing your car & boat but missing you. I can only assume your movements are at night to avoid being spotted by the Police

Not at night, exactly, usually early morning or late evening. Did have the pleasure of meeting Eileen the other day.
I'll probably be at yours about 7:00pm tomorrow (Wednesday) ready for the off on Thursday morning. Hope to see you, I need to give your key, apart from anything else.

Pleasure to meet you. May your return trip be "wind less" and mirror calm all the way home. May the infamous Thames bits of rope goblins and old plastic sack gremlins never entangle your prop.

Doesn't look as though the weather is going to be as good for your return trip unfortunately... We're heading to Windsor Friday arvo/ evening, so will keep an eye out for you as we head up river.

Met Geoff tonight behind Tesco's at Reading and had a sundowner with him.

There is a NB behind him with 4 or 5 blokes on board and the same amount of dogs. I hope he doesn't get woken up too many times!
The weather isn't looking too great for the weekend, so Geoff ordered up a spare genny so he can run the reverse cycle aircon, electric blanket and the 2kw fan heater (can't you just tell it's an Ex GC1 boat )

Any way, he's definately on the move and hoping to be back at Poole mid week.
Bon Voyage Geoff!

Hi All
Was down at the boat Yesterday and Geoff cruised past my mooring below Romney lock, unfortunately despite my lunatic shouting and waving I was out of his line of vision when I spotted him. So did not get the chance to offer him a beer.
And where did Geoff find the Kipor I thought they had stopped being available or so my pal at the mooring was told.
At least Geoff had a sunny, if a tad breezy day yesterday. Weather today is yuk

Good to see in passing at Windsor, Brad. Sitting in Gavi's sitting room whilst it's tipping down outside.

Look who I saw at Bell Weir
Was good to have a chance to say hello, even if it was only a quick chat as the lock emptied.
Saw your boat down at Hampton Court on our way back on Sunday but no sign of life on board.
Hope the weather improves soon for you return trip, yesterday certainly wasn't the weather to be out on a boat.
Darren.

Couple of nice photos, Darren. I wanted one of the boat and the golden gates but couldn't fit all in from where I could photo.
I'm at East Cowes at the moment using a computer courtesey of Dean and Reddyhof. Back to Poole tomorrow, Friday, and the end of the adventure. Did Limehouse to Brighton in one hop, 150nm, as weather was so good on Tuesday, after the aweful Monday.
Can't post any more photos from here, will have to wait 'til I get home.

That's some going single handed you must have been knackered. Hadn't you better translate NM into Km for the EA. They are under the impression boats use Km.

Left Limehouse about 9:00am at Brighton 5 ish. Went slowly down the river London VTS watching us all the way, I was follwing a Broom and they kept telling other traffic about the two targets they were tracking. They'd been a bit p 'd off by a Fairline Targa (not Brad!) travelling at hump speed kicking up one hell of a wash.
I opened up a couple of miles down from QE II. Pottered around off Ramsgate for 1/4 hr or so trying to decide if I should go for Brighton. Glad I did.

No not knackered at all, lovely seas was even tempted to push on to Cowes, but no, that's just silly!
I reckon about 275 Km.

May I congratulate you on both journeys, logs and a successful return home Geoff
The whole thing was a pleasure to read about, and I look forward to meeting you again somewhere!
Kind regards, John, Claire and Simba!
