Hi, look on ebay and try and get an Industrial Sewing Machine that will do both straight and zig-zag stitches. I have a Singer 20OU**, of which they are several models with different width and length of stitch. Mine is a 20OU43 which gives a wide and long stitch, up to about 6mm length x 8mm width. Or try Industrial Sewing Machine dealers for second hand ones. Look at this website where they are £399+VAT new. http://www.sew-europe.co.uk/20u.htm Or this barely used one on ebay! - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PF20u33-INDUSTRIAL...1QQcmdZViewItem
Happy Stitching!

Hi Carol

I have exactly what you want, but you can't have it because I find it much too useful! I expect you wanted something you can use on the boat as I seem to remember reading you are doing a sailaway. Most industrial sewing machines will be too big and heavy for that. Happy hunting!

There is one for sale at the local swindlery, in Richards Bay, South Africa. IIRC it is a 110volt model, but changing the motor shouldn't be too difficult. I'll pop in there tomorrow and get their email address for you. Please note that the owner is known as Fat Chick Dot Com because of the fat markup she has on her goods. She is stupidly expensive and so I suggest you get your best bartering gloves on.

The machine came off a US cruising boat that passed by these waters in December.

They do come up from time to time. Also look out for a Reads (the Reads don't all have the moving foot though which is very useful). Important things are motor power and good flywheel to punch through multiple layers of sailcloth/canvas.

There is a Sailrite supplier in I think Framlington (spelling?) in Portsmouth. They supply industrial machines and may I guess have second hand.

Hi Carol

They are asking R2000-00, which is about £132-00. I have no idea how much it weighs or how much the airfreight will be from SA to the UK.

Please reply saying if you want it or not, because someone else may be interested.

It has a 110volt motor, which is easy to replace - see photo.
It also has the hand crank.
It's a Sailrite, Yachtsman.
