I have a Garmin 3010C plotter, which appears to work well, however when first powered up it often appears to freeze still showing the last position when it was last turned off, and needs to be powered off and on a couple of times in order to begin functioning correctly.
Once working properly, no other problems for the entire trip.
Any suggestions?
many thanks

When you power it up, it will automatically recall its last position from memory. This position CANNOT be updated to the current position until it has a lock on to at least 2 or 3 satellites. Lock on can take a few minutes, whereupon it will jump to the current position. Be a little patient, just give it half a chance to lock on.

Agree with Searush, and remember if any GPS is left switched off for more that 24 consequtive weeks it will loose it's almanac and may need up to 45 minutes to get a cold fix on 1st power up. This is common after winter storage. Some models may manage this in 15mins.
Also if a GPS is moved a significant distance (eg 100miles) when switched off it may take an extra few minutes to get a fix in a new location.
