Hello. Does anyone know where the deepest bit of the river is, above Teddington? I've just recorded 25ft at Halliford bend. Or is there something confusing the sonars?

I dont know where Halliford Bend is, but there is a huge 'hole' on the bend opposite the Desborough Sailing club ; way over 7 metres.

Apparently , the deepest part of the river AFAIK is just downstream of Walton Bridge , near the entrance to Shepperton Marina at around 7 metres.

I'd heard that below Walton bridge was the deepest but I got 27ft by Desborough sailing club - Halliford Bend is the bend by Gibbs Marine (At least thats what i've read) and there's a big hole there as well. I'm guessing that the depth of the bends on the old river at Shepperton may be because of the Desborough cut taking the majority of the silt down the river with 'clean' water scouring out the bends.

I know we have a 'hole' in our weirpool right in front of the big roller sluices , that is approximately 30ft deep according to the fishermen.
But that isn't a navigable bit of the river , so might not count . When the tide is in it could conceivably be 40 ft deep , but i guess that's cheating ?

There's a deep hole above Abingdon lock, on about the 2nd bend and about one bend away from the Swift Ditch. Forget exactly how deep, but think was 6m. Very dramatic change on a depth sounder, very much like a bomb hole.

You're thinking of the budget...
What is it that's so intriguing about these "holes"? There's a 5-6 m one about half a mile above Pentoh Hook, and I must confess for some reason I always look for it, point it out to people, and wonder what's down there, and why it doesn't silt up.

I dont think there is anything spectacular around Shepperton Marina. Been there 9 years; never seen anything worthy of note on the depth gauge.
