The twirly end of an unwound wire coat hanger is ideal. Brushes won't have the guts to remove caked-on crud.

Like kwacker said, I used a .22 rifle barrel cleaning kit once which has a couple of different hard long brushes which was ideal as they would not cause any damage to the internals along with a bit of Mr Muscle limescale cleaner.
Also try one of these old fashined hardware stores, I found one (Hurst's) in Newport IOW that had the same thing for only a £1. I woudn't use coathanger as could damage the internals

I should have explained further, on a T6.354 the crankcase breather from the rocker cover is fed into the turbo inlet, so the charge cooler tubes and inlet manifold get quite oily and sticky. I had a exhaust elbow joint blowing for a while, the inlet guaze on the turbo trumpets got quite clogged with soot. I suspect that the tube stacks are clogged a bit with oil and soot and wish to clean them out.
I reckon a tube brush and jizer is the solution.
They might also be clogged on the outside of the tubes with scale in which case I'll use cillit bang or ridlime type stuff.

Its oileyness I want to clean out, not scale.
I just spoke to 'Industrial brushes are us' or some such, they said a 8 mm nylon bristle twisted wire brush would be £18 each!

I use the flexible plastic coated wire that some small curtains are hung from.
