is looking at buying a Princess 30DS.
It's a 1982 boat with twin petrol Volvo 140hps on outdrives. It has been on the river for some time.
The broker is asking £29950 which will no doubt be open to offers in this market.
What does the panel think. I said it should be OK for a trip down the Thames and a bit of light coastal hopping in the right conditions.

Reckon it should be fine. I would drain and clean the fuel tank(s) as all the sludge will get stirred up the moment it hits a bit of a wave, clog the filters and it will conk out!

That's a 1987 (it says) whereas blackfeather said 1982. Looks a very tidy boat for the money though, probably better than a 1982 at about the same money

"Have twin 135hp Mercruisers which if the volvos are AQ151's will be roughly the same as they put out 140hp Mine will use 14-16GPH flat out and at a cruise of around 22 kts use about 9 GPH. in a Sealine 255. On the river at 6mph on 1 engine it is just under a gallon an hour. "
Above from a petrol posting elsewhere on forum. My single V6 Volvo petrol gave around 2 gallons an hour ditchcrawling and 7-8 gallons an hour at 8/10 knots offshore.Would expect slightly less than double that with twin engines. Petrol consumption would be more than acceptable upriver but surely not really suitable for any decent salt water work especially if the boat is on the Thames its going to cost him £100.00 just to get past the Thames Barrier! Also if its a 1982 boat it may have the old 270 or 280 legs and they really do need checking before purchase especially if they use the wonderful electric lift motors. My observations were that as petrol costs rose boats of this size using this fuel got used less and less therefore maintaince was probably got a bit absent compared to their deisel bretheren.
