PIRATES - Gulf of Aden (Sunday 22 June)
      #1905398 - 24/06/2008 11:12

A News flash on BBC News 24 this morning mentioned a group of four Europeans who have been taken off coast of Africa including one female.

I have traced the news to the Somali north coast in the Gulf of Aden where the pirates have taken the four people ashore and abandoned the yacht on the shore line.

Not good . . . . !

Very bad news....I thought that the US Navy was protecting that entire stretch?

Interesting, Germany is not allowed to do battle with the pirates because German law states that only German police can deal with pirates and not the navy!!

Obviously the Somali pirates know this as they are now holding a German freighter since the beginning of June and now the German yacht!

That will be a continuing WW11 restriction.

Info from a Somali newspaper:

Germany is now poised with a warship of the Somalia coast to effect a rescue of the husband, wife and child similar to the French rescue last month!
