wanted please, old charts & nav equipment
      #1910688 - 28/06/2008 18:56

Hello everyone. I hope no-one thinks this is cheeky and hopefully there are lots of generous people who want to help youngsters with their navigation. I have been roped into teaching navigation to my local sea cadet unit which is in a deprived area of Yorkshire. All their charts, plotters, dividers etc were stolen (along with stuff that the thieves might actually have found more useful) last year, so I am asking if anyone has any old charts (RYA training charts would be great but any charts will be of use). The charts will not be used for navigation at sea so it doesn't matter if they are out of date - I will purely be teaching shorebased stuff. It would also be good if anyone had any old plotters (perhaps they are cracked or damaged but just about usable), dividers (perhaps bent but just about usable) or anything else that you might think is useful lying around (old almanacs/tide tables?) that you haven't used for ages and are unlikely to use again. Thanks a lot for looking at this and thanks even more if you can help, it will be much appreciated by myself and the cadets.

Thieving gits get right up my nose. Struggling to kit out my own boat but thanks to the generosity of another forumite I have some old charts for your area that were sent to me for practice purposes, which are no longer needed as I have charts for my area which were also donated, along with one or two other bits and pieces which I can manage without. Get in touch (e.mail is in my profile) and give me an address to send to. Postage will be at my expense as others have done for me. Good luck, and hope others can help too.
Cheers
Dave

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their very generous offers (both in the forum & via PM) which should enable me to teach a really good chartwork course to the cadets. Thank you once again for all your help.

Tim

Hi There,

Thieving gits!

I have a couple of old RYA training charts and a copy of RYA Practice Navigation Tables For Yachtsmen (1998)

You and the cadets are welcome to them.

PM me your address if interested and I will post them on.

BTW have you asked any local chandlers if the would 'donate' some dividers etc? May be worth a try.
