What regulator for combined Wind/Solar?
      #1911675 - 29/06/2008 22:17

Following Zigmundo's Wind generator post, what reulators do you have?
I have a small Rutland 503 for trickling my Start battery, but I have just bought a 27w panel for trickling the Domestics.
As this is only the starter for 10 system, and I will be upgrading as time goes on, what regulator gives decent overcharge protection, and displays outputs (perhaps an RS232 interface?).

I already have Voltage Sensitive relays and a DCM600 monitor and Merlin AMS alternator regulator.

Hi,

We have a Rutland 913 and 85W of Solar - we use a Marlex HRDX regulator - it split charges over two banks, has a stop switch for the 913, and shows the output of the wind / solar independently or a combined input along with the voltage of each battery bank. Seems good so far and keeps the batteries well above 14v.

The only draw back is that it can only take 100W of solar, however I have heard that a dedicated solar regulator is more efficient? If we get another panel I will put a dedicated regulator on it and connect it directly to the domestic bank in any case.

(We also have a VSR and DCM600 - great bits of kit!)

Jonny

I've got an Aquair 100 convertable wind/water genny) with its own regulator ~ regulated in wind mode only as suggested by Ampair) and I have a separate regulator for the solar, 2X125W rigid + 3 X 68W 'floppy'.

Some see the glass as half full, some see it as half empty. I see it as too damn small.

I would definetley suggest seperate regulators.
My HDRX constaltly blew transitor things and i was then left with no solar and no wind.
so took the step and bought the little HRSI for the rutland 903, and a morningstar sunsaver duo for solar. both work good.
regards
Roy
