The Jester fleet are still trickling into the Azores - latest figures show that 24 have arrived safely out of the 42 starters.
The number of retirees is now at 10 - all accounted for, and there are still 8 boats at sea, mostly the smaller ones, such a Roger Taylor in Ming Ming (Junk-rigged Corribee 21) Bill Churchouse (Westerley Nomad) and Grahame Jewitt ( Junk-rigged Kingfisher 21).
John Apps in Glayva has become the first skipper to complete both events, and the pair of Jester replicas, China Blue and Jester, are also safely in. China Blue arrived on 17 June - the first of the junk-rigged boats to complete the Azores challenge - and Trevor Leek's Jester arrived on 18 June.
Meanwhile, just about the only prize the event offers - The Jester Silver Crown - has been awarded to Russian skipper Alexei Fedoruk for the best home-built boat. The shattered and undecked hull of an Olympic Dragon was completely rebuilt with minimal supplies over about 20 years.
Alexei has since set sail for America, and writes that he had a fantastic time as part of the JA08. 'It was a bit difficult for the French winner, Dominique Katan, to give me the medal' he said 'It had a picture of Nelson on it.'
The date for the next Atlantic Jester has been set for the end of May 2010, with the same departure point of Queen Anne's Battery in Plymouth, with Rhode Island as the destination.
I'll keep you posted as we hear about the tail end of the Azores fleet.

Well done to all entrants whether they complete or not -they provide inspiration to the rest of us to aim a little higher!

I agree, sawdoc, well done all round. And thanks also to PBO, Jake, Eric and others for this valuable forum. For those of us for whom a crossing is a serious glint in the eye, it is the existence of the challenge, the achievements of the participants, and the opportunity to communicate that encourages and inspires us. I'd like to see this forum on the links page at jesterinfo.org. It has been my only consistent point of reference for jester news and opinion over the years. PBO provide the service for free (I confess I haven't bought a magazine of any kind for years! ) and it would be great if it carries on from strength to strength. Great work with the roundups Jake , I can't wait for the participants to write in with their experiences, and no less for the contributions from those who retired or are still working towards their goal. Robin.

Bonjour I tried to add the link on the Ocean Race Track web site but for the JAC there is only one slot for the "official web site". It is logically filled by the "Jester" web site. I had no easy was of doing it. (it is already in a news) Info was transmitted to the "Jester" web site master but.... the web master is Trevor Leek (Jester's skipper) and he is at sea for a while ! So wait and sea. Eric
