I am thinking of buying a Westerly Konsort but have been advised that they are by no means easy to handle under power at low speed - manoevering in marinas etc. is this just uninformed criticism or is it correct? Grateful if anyone owning a Konsort could advise, thanks

I have friends who share a Konsort - a good sturdy and spacious boat for 29ft.
Can't see that they have any particular difficulty in manouvreing - just the same as everybody else.
It could be that your advisor is thinking that, as its a bilge keeler, it wont turn as quick as a fin, but that's hardsly a big issue IMO.
My frieneds have got a lot of benefit out of a new Kiwi Prop, both in sailing speed, and going astern under power.

I have a fin keel Konsort and find no problems forward or astern. It just takes practice and iirc not much of that either.

I find my bilge-keel Konsort quite responsive, both ahead and astern (once you have some way over the rudder). No worse than other boats I have handled, and much better than some.

I had a bilge keel Konsort about 10 years ago. Probably the easiest thing I have had to drive. You should try my old girl with her long keel if you want to define 'difficult'!

My mate has a fin keel Konsort. He is almost always single handed and has no problems in his busy marina. Excellant boat, very seaworthy and loads of room with good build quality and holds its value well. Don't think you will regret buying it.
