Forum connection YET AGAIN!!!!!!!!
      #1913456 - 01/07/2008 11:27

Almost unusable again....

I pay IPC a lot of money subscribing to three boat mags and others...
I dont think its too much that they can provide one fecking forum that works reasonably well!

--------------------
I changed it cos it was too long....to drink and in letters :-)

here's a little go-round to by pass the main access routine.

1 Into your search engine type "ybw feckin" or "ybw [any other word that you have used in a recent post]" :grin

2 select any of the n 100 items you are offered containing the search word.

3 when the searched-for post comes up, you can naviguess your way round the forum as usual.

Have fun !

I can only get in through the mag pages at the moment and have to use the jump to move between forums.

Could it be something other than the forum itself? Its working fine for me, all normal.

Kawasaki phoned me earlier to say he couldn't get onto the forum at all.

Blessings for small mercies.

The problem seems to be with the Main Index page - if I click on that, it hangs until I get a "Page could not be accessed" type message. I'm navigating around, using the Page Jump facility and getting in initially via the "Most Recent Posts" shortcut (itself apparently royally rogered) on the YBW front page.

I have always maintained a discreet silence about the shortcomings of the Forum software, partly because you can't really complain about something that's free and partly because I'm conscious that, by and large, magazine publishing isn't a licence to print unlimited amounts of money and any major expenditure (which I guess is required here to put things right) is not easy to get authorised and even harder to implement, because of lack of resources.

However...... I'm getting really frustrated by the slow and sometimes non-existent speeds of the forum and the constant aggravation of using it. A while back, we gave up the (already clunky) search facility because we were promised faster speeds. We had this for a while, but we're now back to snail's pace operation with the added bonus of a very limited search facility.

Dan: Please would you prevail on your superiors to open the purse strings, not just to authorise revisions to make the system work (you've previously implied that there are things in the pipeline) but also to provide the resources to actually make it happen some time before the next Ice Age? I am a patient man (no, honestly, I am!) and if I'm getting fed up and thinking of walking - which I am - then I suspect many others are as well. Thanks.
