And boating is so much more fun than just standing in the shower and ripping up £20 notes.

How do you get away with just £20 notes-More like £50s.

We bought 20l of red yesterday to top tank up 4 weekend- £15.24- berthholders discount too!
The Autohelm ST50 unit finally died Monday too- new ST60=£330 inc VAT.

If you use £20 notes it still costs the same just gives you more to rip up so you feel you've had your money's worth.

Sailing doesn't have to be expensive.
For instance, some clubs which run their own boats might charge not much more than £30/day (food extra) to crew members.
Most owners are desperate for crew. If you crew on such a boat, you may be expected to pay for skipper's food and drink in the pub. If the skipper expects you to pay for boat upkeep, find another skipper.
I have a sailing dinghy, which I have owned for 25 years and spent very little money on, and which has covered thousands of mile around South Coast harbours.
On the other hand .... marinas a full of boats which are costing a fortune, and which are used for a few weekends each year - if that ... owners in denial about costs, but typically about £100/mile I would guess ...

I have absolutely no experience on earning money from sailing, but am given to understand that the money/work ratio is not impressive.

But that is half the fun spending hundreds on different gadgets and the like.

I've sailed most of my life, but I've only owned a boat for 8 years.
The difference is HUGE!!!!!!.

It used to be: show up, cast off and sail... Now there's so much more - mostly bills.

When people ask me: 'Is this your first boat?' I say 'No'. 'Oh, what did you have before?' Honest answer: 'Money'.
Having said all that - I wouldn't be without a boat for all the money in the world.

That's easy: because!

It worked for the kids (up to a certain age).
