Slo ooooooooooow
      #1915006 - 02/07/2008 18:36

to the point of nothingness......

If this gets posted, it's just a complaint from a grumpy ole woman - and someone's locked the Lounge door against me ...

use jump at bottom right to select lounge and go, rather than main index forum thingy. For some reason, that works.

If you use jump to move around the forums, rather than main index, it actually works quite fast. Using main index and other normal routes of navigation, it's painfully slow.

But isn't it boring now so few know how to get in here. The posting rate has slowed to a crawl.

Keep telling people how to get in. Posts on the subject will have to be high on new threads, as 'dateslip' won't work if you are viewing when not logged in.

Really rather dire though, and won't be suprised if people leave in droves after the past few days, weeks, and even months

Why do these fora keep grinding to a halt?

Do you think IPC really care about them any more? Are they adding value to the magazine empire, or are they just a drain on resources? DO the pop-up landrover ads pay the wages or not?

Maybe IPC should think about issuing memberships to magazine subscribers only - that would take the load off the servers and provide an incentive / added value to subscribers.

According to ybw press releases, ybw was the first of their forums to make a profit, and I'd suspect they are pretty keen to drive revenues from online sales, as that is going to be a key revenue driver for many publications in the future.

I'd second Brendan's comment....

Even if it is slightly loss making, the credibility, knowledge, brand enhancement and experience to be gained from this forum must be of substantial value to IPC....

If I was CIO of IPC, i'd see this as a jewel in the crown.... creating a forum is dead easy.... getting 35,000+ members, and post rates at the normal volumes is gold dust.
