Sealine S23/S25 KAD32 Alternator wiring
      #1915043 - 02/07/2008 19:24

Just wondered if anyone can elp.
I've noticed a thin black wire hanging around near the back of the alternator (which was refurbished last year). Everything appears to be working correctly (RPM / Engine hours / superchrger) and just wondered :-
A) if someone knows what it's for?
B) if someone knows where it should be attached (photo appreciated)

Could it be a charge warning light wire? Or some other charge sense. Just a guess.

Black suggests 'Earth'

As already mentioned the black cable is an earth, there is normally 2 black wires on this alternator, one goes into the wiring loom which becomes the earth return for the engine sensors and controlling relays. The other black cable is just a short one earthing the unit itself to the engine block.
Is the connector on the end of the loose cable a female part of a spade terminal? If the answer is yes then look for a threaded stud (about 4mm diameter)on the back of the alternator that should have the male part of the spade terminal on it, chances are that the terminal has been broken off from it and is still inside the wire connector - thats what happened on mine! have a look and see.
I hope this is of some help.

Steve

No it's not a spade but a ring (eye) terminal looks like it should be bolted on to something and maybe the nut has come loose and the wire has fallen off.
I'm happy that black is earthy but all the warning lights come on prior to start up (charge light iuncluded).

There is about a 4mm threaded bar with SFA connected and I wondered if this is what it should be connected onto with an appropriate nut.

Definately an earth cable. The wiring diagram shows 2 earth connections, one large cable, 10mm? & 1.5mm2. Presumably the lights still work because the unit is earthed by both cable and via the mounting through the engine block?

I'll take a photo of my alternator if you're still puzzling, though from memory I think I have a spade connection on the back.
