Hoping to leave tomorrow afternoon for three weeks cruising N France? Looks like we'll be weathered in at Boulogne for a few days but hoping things will improve to start moving East. Someone has advised to head West and cruise Holland on the inland seas, however, I believe there are issues with red diesel there! Any really experienced formurites out there to comment on sticking with the North France option with the current unsettled conditions? Thanks.

I'd brush up on your navigation first, Holland is east of Bolougne
I believe the Red issue is all sorted, the Dutch last year didn't realise the UK had an extension to keep Red, but now all sorted.

I think its a sound idea to first go to the Scheldt estuary. From Saturday onwards, life in the Channel is going to be hell. You don't want to run into this:
Suggested ports of call: Oostende Flushing (old town port) Goes!!!!!! Zierikzee Middelburg
Make sure you and the crew know how to pass through a lock, as you will encounter several (tip: wind in the back, attach rear rope first)
Note: in bad weather, the safest haven is Zeebrugge. Do not try Blankenberge or Nieuwpoort. Make sure you work the tides along the coast: southwest-setting current in a SW wind is a sure recipe for a vomit comet
After a few days, head back for Boulogne, stop over in Oostende or Blankenberge. Skip Zeebrugge, Nieuwpoort, Calais and Dunkerque. If the tides allow you to get into Graveline, do so, it's nice.

I have done Holland three times and we love it ! I do have a guide of the inland water ways and you could go in canals all the way to holland from france, I had a height rstriction but got in in Niewport and used the canals , its a great way of realxing since everthing is very slow pace...
You can get the guide at west end shop Stanfords.or locally at boat shops or bioat hire centeres.

Thanks Chris. Well spotted. My silly error I was up a bit early so hadn't woken up. Please take East as West and West as East in my earlier post.

AH, if you want to go ditch-crawling, you can easily get to Bruges, Antwerp and Ghent. Ghent has its anual festival 18-28 July.
Belgian maps are on-line at http://www.binnenvaart.be/nl/waterwegen/waterwegenkaarten.asp
