Anyone know how to change the impeller on a Yamaha 8hp L/S??

Also, I can't find a plate on the thing giving the year etc, anyone know where this is on the engine??

Thanks

I think you have to remove the bottom of the leg and impller is inside,

I'm not really very knowledgeable on Yamahas but I can say with a reasonable degree of confidence that the pump will be in or on the top of the gear case so you will have to separate that from the leg. You need to know if and how to disconnect the shift rod so experienced advice or a manual is required there. You also need to know if there are any other pitfalls.

Sorry I don't know where you will find the model details but other makes including Johnsons, Evinrudes, Mercuries and Mariners have a plate on the transom bracket.

When you find it you should be able to identify the year HERE . Once you have ID the year a pump overhaul kit would be a sensible purchase as it will have everything you are likely to need included.

Lakesailor knows a bit about Yammies so if he does not see this thread a posting on Reader to Reader might be a good idea.

Just in case anybody likes to tell you the pump might be behind the prop then I'll point out that can only be there, and it is sometimes, on very small engines with a fixed drive ie no gears or clutch.

Depending on the Year.
The impellor sits on top of the lower unit.
