I just thought I'd update the capping rail thread. I've struggled and fought with the rail today to fit it to the dinghy. With another pair of hands we managed to get it on and I have bonded it with Sika 292 (expensive, but I don't want it coming off)
There is a gap at the bow to fill with a sliver of the spare rail, epoxied in. I just couldn't get an accurate measurement until the piece was on and I had to cut the end off to get it on.
I think 2 days should see the Sika cured (up to 4mm @ 10°C according to the product sheet) so I'll risk taking the rope off then.

You didn't want to risk using the 'builders' version then?

Which you could have told us is Sikaflex 252.
Sikaflex 512 Caravan Sealant is I think the non marine equivalent of 291

I can lay my hands on the 292 easily. Where I live I can spend £10 in fuel getting difficult to source stuff. I haven't had much success with some of the "other" makes available either. At least if I pick up the boat by it's gunwhale the capping strip will stay on.

Is that a plastic Mirror?
We've just been given one of them - great wee boat but very heavy compared to the wooden version.

Rather than put a little filler piece in the gap, couldn't you take out that corner piece (which is all short grain anyway) and put a decent knee in there? Just a thought....

It's a West Eleven, slightly longer than a Mirror. (I've got one I've got to get round to selling at Bradwell).

I'm pretty sure I have a brass keel band for a Mirror at home from many years ago. If I'm right, and anyone can use it, you are welcome for the cost of postage.

SRP has a good idea. After the fight you've had getting this far a couple of new corner knees would finish it off brilliantly!
