Doesn't matter. The choice is between Lavac Popular and Lavac Zenith surely?
(i think it locks the pump/valves to prevent syphoning)

The twist and lock is a more secure version. Having said that you should always use a vented loop and always remember to shut you seacocks - but we all forget to close the seacocks occasionaly donn't we....
Without a twist and lock if you get a backward pressure on the outlet then you could cause the Joker valve to invert, meaning you have to strip the toilet down to make it work..
At the very worse as with all overboard discharge toilets - the water could fill & overfill the bowl - fill the bilges - do I need to carry on.......... I would go for the twist and lock every time...

Can you retrofit a twist & lock assembly on an existing Jabsco?

You certainly can. I'm off to my boat tomorrow to do exactly that. I ordered the twist/lock pump from Jabsco after speaking with a very helpful chap on the phone. Part number 29040-3000 @£50. Apparently the fitting have remained constant throughout the models.
