Difficult to write down but. Sealine 310 statesman, AD41 diesel engines. Had a fuel smell on the boat for ages thought it was the tanks leaking. After reading some of the posts sat in engine bay while engines running found one of the injectors leaking. Now for the question. There is a big block between the engines where the engine mountings are fixed. At the end of this there is an inspection hatch with a bilge pump in it. I have got a aqua vac and sucked out all of the water/bilge from the hatch but more trickles in from what looks like that block between the engines. Is it possible that old leaks and bilge could be in this block? Can I drill an inspection hole in the top or is this block solid? Any help appreciated.

We have an F33 and it sounds similar in set up with a box section runing between the 2 engines which the engine mounts go on to. The Engine room bilge pumps are located in this box section and we have an access hatch at the front and rear. I believe this set up is there to prevent you pumping bilge water from directly under the engines and has the drain holes and bilge pump float set in a way that minimises the risk of you pumping oil etc overboard.
We had a lot of oil in ours following an engine issue and it has take a long time to get it properly cleaned out, we found that after manually cleaning it, sticking an oil absorbent roll got rid of the rest. Leaving some water in there will help it swill around a little.

...I believe baby nappy's (unused, of course!) are just as absorbent. They need recovering though before they fall to pieces.....
