Did anyone see the BBC report of Hamilton on Boss?
      #1919406 - 06/07/2008 11:31

This was on on Friday evening I think. Ther report said that he'd been on the boat for the RTIR and had finished first, complete with champagne corks a-poppin'.

Am I the only one to believe that Boss was disqualified for a crash on the starting line? If I'm right, I'm a bit miffed about the misleading reporting, perhaps I'm just being grumpy old git.....

Open 60 results were

GBR3 ECOVER 3 10:27:55 04:27:55 1
GBR10 ARTEMIS OCEAN RACING 10:53:18 04:53:18 2
GBR16670 PINDARTEAM MURKA 10:58:31 04:58:31 3
GBR222 AVIVA 10:59:01 04:59:01 4
GBR99 HUGO BOSS DSQ

If you are grumpy think what Ecover crew must feel about that report!

But wasn't Hugo Boss first across the line out of the Open 60s and then they were later disqualified after a protest.

Sounds just like judicious reporting to me.

I also saw the report and also felt pretty miffed that they were described as winners of thier class.

I suppose as they were DQd I could tell BBC I finished ahead of them according to the published results.

Hamilton does not seem to be having a good year!

Lots of crashes and penalties. Has someone got it in for him or was last year beginners luck?

They were DSQ after an incident on the start line where their prodder snagged Atomic's backstay and brought the rig down.

The RRS very clearly state that a collision involving damage cannot be cleared by accepting a penalty and the offending boat must retire.
You can be very sure that it was commercial pressures that resulted in Hugo Boss continuing in the race, although reports I've heard make it clear that Alex sent his rib to check on atomic and stand by them.

To not even mention this in a report aired 4 days after the race is absolutely shocking reporting.

Which programme was this shown on? Could it still be available on Iplayer?

Its a real shame that there was no decent national television coverage of RTI, in the same way as is done for so many other sporting events.

I was miffed by the report on Friday night for two reasons, its obvious factual inaccuracy and that the only reason they covered the race at all, it seems, was for an interview with Lewis Hamilton. So miffed in fact that I decided to rant at the BBC via the feedback form. I did manage to stop myself from starting my comments in true Points of View style with "Why, oh why, oh why?", but it was hard.
