Would 14knots be enough???

just wondering would 14knots be enough to drive a boat through a heavy head sea for example leaving rathlin with a strong tide ty for your help

In heavy seas you would need to go far slower. Maybe 6 or 7 knots. Depends how heavy!

Not the speed capability, the power to push through the tide and sea is what is needed!
But have to agree with above, 6-7 knots is ample for heavy seas. Depends what boat we are talking about.

sorry maybe rephrase would twin 80hp on a 32ft boat be enough my friend reckons not

More than enough. A single 80hp would easily do the job!
Years ago my old Senior 31 which is a similar boat had twin 36hp Perkins and went through hell and high water!

I may be wrong, but you won't get 14 knots out of a P33 SD hull with 2 x 80HP.

I managed 17 knots with the same boat with 2 x 120HP.

Would have thought you'd max out at about 10/11 knots, but happy to stand corrected by them wot knows better..........?

The boat and engines will be fine.

The point on speed and big seas, is very difficult to answer, depending on the direction and sort of sea, my boat handles much better at 20 knots.
