Bowroller material
      #1969619 - 22/08/2008 21:41

Evening all...
My old Tufnol bowroller is pretty worn & I'm having difficulty sourcing Tufnol in small quantity, i.e..50mm x 50mm.
It seems to be quite expensive stuff & I'm being quoted over £100 for 1200mm minimum length.
I only need 100mm to make 2, but any suggestions for a hard-wearing replacement material, suitable for a 20Kg anchor would be most welcome.
Jock

Acetal,

Readily available, machines well does not absorb moisture.
I have made several bow rollers from this with good success.

I went into a metal "stockholder" on an industrial estate. Cut me 2 50mm X 50mm lengths of I think Ertalyte rod which drilled and shaped easily and has done the job perfectly. Quoted replacement bow roller price from marine supplier was £23.50 + postage + VAT!!! I was charged £3 for the 2 but of course had to drill centre hole.

Have a look at this website, you should be able to get the quantities you require, for a reasonable price...

Not what you are asking for but Seascrew sell the ready made roller for a couple of pounds made of nylon I believe.
