Out of Hours Locking - What hours???
      #1970397 - 24/08/2008 07:49

Hi

Anyone know what time Out of Hours power is supposed to come on in the mornings??

Tried to get an early start yesterday to get up to Henley and the power at Boulters didnt come on until 08:25 - what bl00dy use is that!

Wound most of it in the end, and it wound me up!

Might just as well wait another half hour for the lockie.

Nicely settled at Fawley Meadow, just holding on tight as the wash from JECUK passing hits us!!

told me (albeit a while ago) that the official times were whatever the normal lock opening hours were for the time of year plus two hours. i.e. 7 a:m to 9 p:m .

Last year there was a post from EA saying that summer evenings had been extended to 10 pm:

In practice I think it is left to the resident who sets the time clock annually!

Tried to get through Clifton Hampden at 9:30 last month and that was turned off, it would be better if it was left on all night, I didn't realise the hours were restricted.

What are you talking about? I backed off through there! In any event if the wash took 15 hours to hit you it is no longer my responsibility....

We are at T&K heading to Moulsford tomorrow.

Out of hours power is 0700-0900. 1900-2200 BST clocks are not moved in winter and are set by Halcyon who designed the system. Like my watch, there time peice probebley gaines or loses a bit over the years. As I undersand it if somone misuses the system it will lock out Why any one needs to navigate outside lock hours I will never understand I would rather crack a bottle or two well maybe three if in company and enjoy the evening on the river £4 mooring fee paid.

I've just had a word with the nice Resident lockie and he thought the clock was set for 07:30, so it's a mystery.

That said the clocks are electric - so if a remote lock has a power cut it'll be running slow until it is reset. As they are initially set by Halcyon and not to be touched by local staff, I can't see that happening too quickly if at all.

I think Public Access during the normal day is set via a separate switch

There is a certain magic in cruising the River in early mornings and evenings. The water is quiet, calm and serene.

I'm obliged to you for stopping early - so I can potter on without interruption. Working the locks oneself is also part of the "experience"
