Electric Etiquette
      #1975783 - 28/08/2008 23:29

Conwy has a mad sytem of electric supply, there are less plug points than boats and are on a card system, it's very cheap and a fiver lasts for months. Some folk put a lock on there plug hole, which is begining to make sence. Though I was told by the marina staff, to cut the lock off, if it looked a bit old.

So anyway. I arived at this new spot and plugged into a spare hole. Felt a bit guilty as there was about £15 on the meter. Anyway, we've been there since May, no probs, so I concidered it ours and topped up the meter, a couple of times. Other bloke has obviously gone.

So after a few days away, comes back and a yachts plugged in to "My" meter. I had a bit of a chat with him, carefull not to draw offence, understanding the problems. How ever it seems he is perminant. I managed to just about reach a plug hole at the end of my tether, with 40p on it and a lock, but luckily undone.

Now in talking to the bloke in my plug hole, we both agreed, we would not unplug a boat, incase they had a fridge or sumat on. Anyway I thort he'd wandered off to the pub or where ever, but three days later, it looks like he's gone home.

Do I just unplug him and claim back my plug hole and fiver electric. Use the plug hole I found with lock, about four boats down. and risk his wrath. Or be billy no mates with no electric, when I actually paid and did have some.

Yes, I'd thought of that and even looked in the shop. I can make one up, by distroying all my leads. Or buying new bits.

Thing is. New bloke seems to think, his line wont reach to where mine is now, where as I can cope in most circumstances aand have lines that will reach forever if need be.

New to the marina elec thingy scene, but when i'm plugged in right from the pontoon to the boat, no [--word removed--] had want to touch my leccy, when I leave, i've left the cable on the pontoon with a polite 'In use, incase yer too thick to notice' and another very kindly written note 'Steal my wire and i'll strangle you with it' - so far so good

We are much more civilised down here on the Medway. There are 17 boats on our pontoon and 24 outlets for the leccy. On top of that the leccy is all in on the berthing fees. So it's use as much as want no hassle here.

Ditto in Dover, one plug per berth and all consumption included with your annual fees.

Unplug him, take you £5 of leccy, replug him and use other outlet.

Cut his lead into one yard lengths and chuck them in his boat.
