Falmouth
Boat: Inshore
Date: Sunday, 13 July 2003
Location: 1 Mile South East of Zone Point
Weather: SE 5, Rough Sea, Good Visibility, Sunny
Service: Yacht Piccolino with engine problems

Crew:
Dave Nicoll (Helmsman), Michael Lowres, Luke Tudor

The Action:
At 15:12 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat proceed to assist the Yacht Piccolino with three persons onboard, which had reported engine problems, 1 mile South East of Zone Point, and was concerned due to the prevailing sea conditions. The Inshore Lifeboat was already afloat at Gyllyngvase Beach and had just completed a rescue demonstration with the RNLI Beach Rescue Lifeguards when the call was made.

The Inshore Lifeboat proceeded at 15:14 and was on scene at 15:19. The yacht was located and was found to be having difficulty sailing due to the sea conditions off Zone Point. The yacht dropped its sails, a towline was passed, and at 15:34 the tow back to Falmouth commenced. At 16:29 the yacht was safely placed alongside the pontoons at Port Pendennis Marina and the Inshore Lifeboat was released to return to station. A fouled propeller had caused the engine problems.

The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 16:36 where it was refuelled and ready for service by 16:55.
