Hi,
Vreny (our stella) is suffering a bit at the moment as we change a few keelbolts. We think we may need to pack the joint between keel and hull with something (Tallow?) before tightening up the bots..... but where can we get tallow??????
Any suggestions gratefully received.

May I remind all passengers that there is strictly no smoking allowed on any part of the Underground. However, if you are smoking a joint, it's only fair that you pass it round the rest of the carriage."

Try "Traditional Boat Supplies", Suffolk. Tel 01502 712311. E mail tradboats@ic24.net.
I know nothing about them but they have tallow in their 2002 Catalogue which I picked up somewhere.

I'd just get some lard- it's only a purified form of tallow and you can get that anywhere.

Try your local plumbers merchant. Always a good source.

Exactly its just purified beef fat--or fat!If you meen jointing? better to use non drying/glueing butal-rubber. Give you a good non glueing joint tighten up then give it overnight to firm up then tighten up! One good joint very flexable and water resistant.
Its very inexpensive as modern boats dont use it, just the yards to bed things!(on modern boats)not the owners!
