This project puts our febble fitting out problems in perspective! Are there ways to register the boat so work and materials would be vat free, like a foundation,or charityor set up a business, the enormity worries me,having seen boats like the Cambia fall on hard times.

Thanks for all that , and if you feel you can help in any other way , don't resist the urge, even if it means a quick flight with toolkit in hand , cheers

Sorry , sad git on the forum at 03-00 , can someone tell me where there is a boatyard that is willing to help out please . I have been asked to lodge £10,000-00 , just to put her in dry dock . Just to put her in dry dock . That kind of money will see heaps of work done , but they want me to lodge it in a bank , so they have access in case I do a runner , is this the first kick in the head followed by more , probably , sorry YES , but I'm not giving up , can we make this a forum project , I don't mean all pile in but , sorry this early in the stage to get such a kick in the teeth , any help would be appreciated , I don't suppose kieth and YBW have anything to offer . Whatever happens , she will sail again, got confirmation from previous skippers grand daughter who is in posession of all diarys etc , please excuse spelling , I'm knackered

Dave, do you intend laying her up around the Crouch/Southend area? If so, I could let you have a couple of numbers of helpful people to find a home. Got to bear in mind that a lot of people start these things round here, and then the yard is left with trying to dispose of the fall out when they lose heart, so I can see the upfront money, but I am not sure about 10 grand.

Dave, are you totally mad?
I hope so, because this is a tremendous project and I am really looking forward to watching the progress.

Good luck with the project.

Have you thought you may be better off buying an acre somewhere adjacent to a creek? Doesn't have to be deep water for a Thames barge - just enough to float her at springs. I'll bet you're also going to need a couple of old shipping containers on site. Just done a few mental calcs and ten grand could get you an acre of agric. and a purpose built slip; there's the planning issue, of course, but I'll bet if the place is reasonably isolated you could get away with it for a few years ... or even claim 'Persevere' as an agricultural building. Flog the land to pay for the final fit-out.

What is the fastest time you could repair below the waterline? I had always discounted using a commercial yard due to cost until I saw a privately owned fishing boat up on Eel Pie Slipways last week. He seemingly comes up every 2 years. It's expensive whatever way you look at it but you have more options once the bottom is done.
