The most remote pub in Britain. Arrived there on a Saturday and could hardly get in the door for bodies as the place was heaving with atmosphere and bonne homme. A place that busy in such a remote location - has to be good. Check out the website at http://www.theoldforge.co.uk

And an added advantage is that the pub moorings are £10 a night but free if you eat at the restaurant. This is the theory anyway, never seen any checks take place.

You may not be a fan of Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, but I enjoyed the repeated River Cottage Gone Fishing. His bit about the scallops, mussels, razor clams and langoustines. Especially the point made about the difficulty of getting these things in the UK, because much goes straight to the rest of Europe. Well, if you sail round the Scottish Western Isles, these beauties find their way to a host of pubs and restaurants, and guess what? Many, like the Old Forge Inn on Knoydart, have moorings available in sheltered and stunning locations. The beauty of the Old Forge is that it is a great location to combine sailing and hillwalking as the Inn sits in the shadow of some spectacular Munroes!
