Re: looking to buy a narrowboat to live on
Hi Parker - welcome to the forums! There are plenty of boats around, shortage of residential moorings are the problem. They're like rocking horse poo! I know of one on a residential mooring in Hammersmith that's up - PM me for details (click on my name and hit 'personal message' from there).
Don't worry about not getting any younger, worry about not getting any older!

Apolloduck.co.uk is a good place to have a browse. There are plenty. As Mike suggests either find a mooring before you buy or buy one with a mooring.
Regarding the boat itself as a liveaboard make sure it has all the systems (electrics, gas, adequate batteries etc. etc.)
Lots of useful information on the http://www.canalworld.net forum.
